Start-up companies and their Coverage for Family Planning

More companies are moving towards covering assisted fertility benefits. Companies such as Pinterest, Chanel, Facebook, and Google are now offering coverage of up to $100,000 for in vitro fertilization costs which would benefit their employees and their family planning.

Pinterest, a free website which allows users to manage images and video content onto their “pinboards,” will offer to cover up to four rounds of in vitro fertilization for people working for the online company. The business also states that “any employee going through the adoption process can receive a reimbursement up to $5,000 in net benefits, while those working with a surrogate can receive reimbursement up to $20,000 in net benefits, covering costs associated with everything from travel to agency and legal fees, and any other related expenses” (

Pinterest, who has already been offering in vitro fertilization benefits since 2016, acclaim their choices in health care benefits to listening and attending to their employees’ needs. The San Francisco online start-up also offers four months of paid parental leave for employees to take at any time they would like throughout the year, in an effort to help new parents have more time with their newborn child.

Having companies provide benefits to their employees leads the workers to feel more satisfied with their work, while also more likely to retain the employees for longer. Therefore, organizations who add family planning benefits such as in vitro fertilization, surrogacy, and adoption fee coverage, not only benefits the employee, but the organization’s performance as well.
